Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad announces 2013 schedule

ROMNEY — The historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad has announced its 2013 schedule.

The 23-year-old operation is one of America’s most scenic train rides. The regular three-hour trips travel along the South Branch of The Potomac River.

Day trips depart at 1 p.m. from Romney’s Wappocomo station on Saturdays in July, August and September. There are some departures on Sundays in July and September. Special all day round trips of eight hours depart Romney at 10 a.m. for Petersburg, where riders have approximately one and one-half hours to eat in a nearby restaurant, browse the Southside Depot featuring West Virginia items, and a antique store.

“Experience ‘The Trough’ a spectacular narrow mountain valley where the American Bald Eagle nests and soars above the train. Your camera is a must,” a spokesperson said.

Daily Fall Foliage trips run Oct. 3 through 27. They depart Romney on Mondays through Fridays at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.. There are also runs Sunday, Oct.13 and 20, at 2 p.m.

Coach and club class tickets are available for all trips. Coach class may purchase food on board or bring your own cooler. Club class includes riding in a club car or dining car with a full meal served during the trip.Groups and tour are welcome.
