Change the Future WV working with newspapers

There was a healthy dialogue this week when Change the Future WV coordinated meetings for newspapers and community health groups in southern West Virginia.

With a goal of getting more newspaper coverage of healthy living issues, Change the Future partnered with the West Virginia Press Association to conduct meetings in Mercer and Wyoming counties on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Each meeting brought together representatives of  local community health organizations, local newspapers and Change the Future WV.

Journalist Kate Long, working as a writing coach and meeting facilitator for Change the Future WV, organized and directed the meeting. She was joined by Ginger Day and, in Pineville, Sara Fitzwater Miller, Natalie Foster and Tina Ramirez, all of Change the Future WV.

In Bluefield, Editor Samantha Perry and her staff at the Bluefield Daily Telegraph – www.bdtonline.com – hosted the meeting. Editor Tammie Toler of The Princeton Times – www.ptonline.net – joined with the Bluefield newsroom to meet with community members.

Later that day in Pineville, Editor John Conley of The Independent Herald – www.independentherald.com– represented the WVPA newspapers at a meeting held at the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources office near Pineville.
