The Register-Herald in Beckley hiring for three positions

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The Register-Herald, a leading daily newspaper in southern West Virginia, is looking to add staff.

The 20,000-circulation Register-Herald is located in Beckley, which is the business and medical hub for the region. The  newspaper has three openings.

No. 1 – Police-General Assignment Reporter 

The Register-Herald has an opening for a police/general assignment reporter with multimedia experience. Experience in curating a website is a plus.

Duties: The successful candidate will work a Sunday through Thursday shift, handling the crime beat Sunday-Monday and general assignments at the direction of the managing editor. You will also be expected to be proficient in all aspects of social media and expertise in web curation and evaluation of website metrics, including developing content strategies.

Qualifications: BA or MA in journalism/communications. In the absence of specific journalism education, we will consider experience in the media industry.

No. – 2 Fayette County-General Assignment Reporter

The Register-Herald has an opening for a reporter to cover general assignments and Fayette County, the home of the Boy Scouts of America Summit Bechtel Family Preserve.

Duties: The successful candidate will cover all aspects of Fayette County, including government, Boy Scouts and the people of the county. General assignment duties also will be given at the direction of the managing editor. You will also be expected to be proficient in all aspects of social media.

Qualifications: BA or MA in journalism/communications. In the absence of specific journalism education, we will consider experience in the media industry.

No. 3 – Paginator/Multimedia Journalist

The Register-Herald has an immediate opening for a paginator and multimedia journalist. Experience in InDesign preferable. Proficiency in all aspects of social media as well as web management are required as well.

Duties: Paginating pages for The Register-Herald, its weekly zoned editions and a number of special sections, as well as web posting. Other duties as directed by assistant managing editor.

Qualifications: BA or MA in journalism/communications. In the absence of specific journalism education, we will consider experience in the media industry.
